Three Kinds of People Not to Follow on Twitter

photo

One of the things that seems to represent status in our generation is who has the most people following them on twitter. But there are certain people that you know that, if people were to find out you were following them, it would ruin your reputation--bad influences.

Well in this sermon Pastor Justin Cox discusses three different kinds of people that we should not follow in this world--discussing the extremes of those that are leaning on their own understanding, from the legalist to the sinner wanting the reputation of being a Christian. This message is good for all those that are struggling to give God their hearts.

What Lebron James & the Apostle Paul Have in Common (Pt. 1)

ss133 pic by you.Did you know that the Apostle Paul and Lebron James have some things in common? In Philippians, Paul shares something with us about what his focus was on. He had one goal--to win the prize. He may have been breaking all kinds of records on the way to knowing Christ more deeply but those other things didn't matter to Paul because he was in a distance race and he was determined to win an eternal reward.

In Christianity many of us get side-tracked with so many little goals that the thing that is most important--a relationship with Christ--is neglected. Many may run well for awhile but then they get hindered because there were certain things which they failed to realize were important in running the Christian race to win. In this sermon Pastor Cox, gives us some pointers on how not merely to start the race but how to finish it well--how to take hold of that for which Christ has taken hold of us....

Who Are You Living to Worship? Pt. 2

What are we living for? Are we even consciously aware of it? It is so easy to become so caught up in the day-to-day that we cease to really deliberately choose Christ. As a result many of us find ourselves actually living for many other things not only in our actions but in the reasons behind our actions.

In this sermon, Minister Chris Davis continues discussing the importance of God's ownership of our lives by addressing the part of us that only we and God see--our hearts. This is a very challenging message because it confronts the inner life and digs at the root of our behaviors, and is sure to bring conviction along with it. Be blessed and challenged as you listen. (Note: the first few minutes were not recorded so bear with it, as you may be lost for the first few seconds.)

Who Are You Living to Worship?

We as human beings seem to have something inside us that longs to worship. There is something about us that makes us want to find something we can be obsessed with or consumed by. Sadly, so many people, even within the church, find something other than God to set their affections on--a job, a relationship, or even works they're doing for God.

In this message, Minister Chris Davis teaches us that worship is more than just lifting our hands during a worship session but that it is attached a lifestyle of love and devotion that comes from gratitude for what Christ has done in the Christian's life. This is a good message to use to examine whether you're heart is really devoted entirely to God or if there are other things that compete with your affections for Him.

The One Thing That You Can't Just Watch

ss130 pic by you. When we're kids our parents tend to shield us from things on TV that we just don't need to be watching. When we become Christians often times there is no one there to tell us how NOT to look at things pertaining to the faith.

Sometimes we can see or hear about the cross so many times that it simply loses its impact. That's because we fail to put ourselves on there with Jesus--that it isn't just something Jesus did for us back then but it is something we live in now. Because we neglect this truth we start forgetting what Christianity is really all about. Listen in as Pastor Cox expounds on Philippians 3, in which Paul discusses his determination to become like Christ in His death.

Will You Be God's Biggest Loser?

Did you know that God has a "Biggest Loser" competition going on? On the day when He will settle all accounts God is going to weigh everyone's life to see who gave up the most for the purpose of knowing Him.

The heart God desires to see of us is not one that does just enough to try to get by, but one that gives up on trying to perform "Christianity" or the things in this world that are temporarily pleasurable, in order to know the one that gave up everything to win us back from sin and death.

In this sermon Pastor Cox emphasizes the importance of losing your life in order to know God in an intimate way.

Add This to Your Christian Goals

Most of us have goals that we have set for ourselves in life, but how many of us can honestly say that we have made suffering one of the major goals for our lives? Yet the Apostle Paul said that he had a goal in life and was focused on the achievement thereof--namely, that he might know Christ in the fellowship of His sufferings. The other apostles also counted it an honor to share in the sufferings of Christ. How do we take it?

In this sermon Pastor Justin Cox shares the importance of making this a goal in our lives--to experience suffering for Christ, and to find Christ in the midst of suffering. Pastor Cox challenges us to endure in order to know Christ in a more intimate way than we have yet known Him.

Is Your Religion Keeping You From Salvation?

Flintstone Vitamins taste so good and everyone is telling you they're good for you that when you're a kid you might treat them like they're candy. You forget that there is a right way or a purpose in eating the vitamins. This is the same problem that many people in the church have when it comes to good works.

It is so easy to have a religious belief or confidence based on some intellectual knowledge rather than through genuine saving faith in what Christ did. Too often we as humans are inclined to dress ourselves in good works, stop doing some things and think that makes us okay with God. Listen in to this very important message by Pastor Cox on the danger of building your hope on religious practices that may keep you from salvation.

How to Resist Being Recruited to Become a Dog

It is easy to get so caught up with what you are doing for Christ that you forget to see that it should all come from the finished work of what Christ did for you. If we do not recognize this fact, we're likely to start trying to work FOR salvation rather than FROM salvation.

In this sermon Pastor Justin Cox compares physical circumcision to spiritual circumcision and preaches on the dangers of adding on to what Christ has already done. Paul calls such people, who exalt something other than Christ for salvation and recruit others to their way of thinking, "dogs." It is easy to become a "dog" if you're not rooted and trusting solely in what Christ has done to save you from sin. This sermon is a real "treat" for me. I hope you enjoy it!

What Kind of T-Cell Are You to Christ's Body?

ss123 pic by you.

Your body needs its immune system at all times. That means that no part of immune system can take a day off because if it does you may die. But what if your t-cells--cells designed to attack and destroy viruses--not only decide they need a break but even want to start attacking the other parts of your immune system. Sadly there are several illnesses that create this exact problem.

In the body of Christ we have similar problems. Some of us may be doing a great amount of harm to Christ's body by wanting to lay down our weapons against the enemy or wanting to attack those people in the body that are not our enemies. In this sermon Pastor Cox levels with the congregation with some funny personal examples on these very serious topics. Be encouraged as you listen.
