How Not to Make a Stupid Decision
Submitted by Layman on Sun, 01/24/2010 - 12:00.
We have all done things that we regret. We've all made decisions that have made us wish we could redo some moments in our lives...things that have thrown us into pits before God and people that are hard to get out of. We tend to make these kinds of bad decisions because we are not considering just how our decisions are going to impact those around us and what the ultimate consequence of those decisions will be for ourselves.
In this sermon Pastor Cox begins by asking the congregation what the dumbest decisions are that they have ever made. He then goes on to emphasize the necessity of keeping our eyes on 1. how our choices today will impact tomorrow and 2. the importance of keeping our eyes on the soon return of Christ in order to avoid losing, not only our loved ones, reputations, careers, or lives, but even our souls.
How to Prepare for Trials
Submitted by Layman on Mon, 01/18/2010 - 12:00.
We come across moments in our lives everyday that are impossible for us to live for Christ through if we do not prepare ourselves beforehand to come up against them. We can sometimes see these kinds of situations from afar--problems at work, temptations to lust around certain people at school, drama at home--and unless we prepare for these trials we won't stand when the time comes.
How do we prepare for trials if we want to live for Christ? Pastor Cox shares from God's Word about Apostle Paul's heart and how he got ready for trials before they came--his determination to be unashamed, his search for enough courage to stand in each moment, and his ever-present desire to magnify Christ in his circumstances. This sermon will convict and challenge you to make sure Christ is at the center of your heart and life.
What is Your Prison?
Submitted by Layman on Sun, 01/10/2010 - 12:00.
We’ve all heard the terrible stories of prison life through documentaries, movies, or from people who have been there and come back. None of us want to be there. It is a place of extreme discomfort. But often times, though we may not realize it, God will deliberately place us in “prisons” in our lives so that we can impact more lives for Him.
It may be that you just want to be comfortable and problem free, and you say you’ll serve God then, but if you wait until then the people around you in your prison—your uncomfortable circumstances—won’t be able to see the light of Christ shinning in the midst of the darkness. It may be tough but don’t pity yourself, look up and find Christ where you are.
Pastor Cox preaches a sermon on rejoicing in the midst of the difficult circumstances in our lives that we feel stuck in, and encourages us to use every opportunity in our trials to preach the true gospel to those around us.
Where the Christian's Power Comes From
Submitted by Layman on Wed, 01/06/2010 - 12:00.
A tree that is half covered in fruit or leaves and is half naked just doesn’t look right. Why does one side seem dead and the other seem alive? The same is true spiritually. Often times people may appear to trust Christ in one area and find strength in that area but when it comes to being submitted in every area, well…let’s just say there are some bald spots.
When we have areas in our lives that we know are not lining up with His Word we often will seek comfort in scriptures that talk about God accepting us when we’ve fallen or we will become anxious and start trying to fix those areas and we fail to realize that all the power of the Christian life comes from the grace of God because of our faith in Christ.
This is a short message that is a little more like a teaching than the ordinary message preached by Pastor Cox. In this sermon we are encouraged to “tap into” Christ where all the power, joy, and fullness of the Christian life are found.
Top 10 Bangin' New Year's Resolutions
Submitted by Layman on Sun, 12/27/2009 - 12:00.
Every New Year people tend to make promises they are going to try and keep in the up coming year. We all like the idea of taking advantage of the changing of the year by using it as an excuse to fix the things in our lives that we would like to change either about ourselves or our circumstances.
Usually we make resolutions about losing weight or finances but in this sermon Pastor Cox gives us ten bangin’ New Year’s resolutions for Christians. Some of these have to do with how we relate to people, some have to do with how we relate to God, and some are how we relate to sin. I was both convicted and blessed while I listened to this very encouraging message on how we ought to usher in the new year.
Swagger Like a Wise Man
Submitted by Layman on Sun, 12/20/2009 - 12:00.
Everyone has swagger, even the wise men of scripture. No nativity scene is complete without the wise men but these men are usually overlooked and their story discounted as insignificant. We don’t often realize just how much we could learn from these men.
Some scholars say they traveled more than 1,000 miles across a desert to worship Jesus and to bring him gifts. This would have likely taken a year or more. They past up the gods of their own country and the wealth of a king, leaving behind family and comfort because they believed the stars spoke of a baby that would be greater than all of that.
Pastor Cox preaches on the swagger of these men and how we as Christians should do as they did. A fresh perspective on these obscure characters and on the life of a Christian.
Do You Know Where You're At?
Submitted by Layman on Sun, 12/13/2009 - 12:00.
The apostle Paul tells us in Ephesians that we are in Christ, but often times we forget what that means. If we can’t do the same things in a small town as we can in a big city, or we can’t do the same things in a rich area as we can in a ghetto, then the same thing applies when we change from trusting ourselves to trusting Christ.
When a woman decides to date a man, her relationship with every other man changes. It is easy to forget but when we are in Christ, we are in a relationship and because of that relationship every other relationship we have, including our relationship with sin, changes.
Join Pastor Justin Cox as he encourages us to start living with this in mind by getting our Jason hockey mask on and killing the things in our lives we used to love before we met Christ.
Tired of Living Impure?
Submitted by Layman on Sun, 12/06/2009 - 12:00.
Some of us have experienced bullies in our lives but all of us have been beat up by sin. Well, in the case of bullies and in the case of sin in a Christian’s life, there comes a time when we need to get tired of being pushed around and start doing something about it.
The good news for a Christian is that Christ has already done something about it. When someone is bullied he might get his brother or father to help him. As Christians we just need to walk in the power that Christ has made available to us. The important thing is to know that this is about knowing God and knowing ourselves and doing what we have to do to stay with Him.
Pastor Cox encourages those that are tired of living impure and half hearted with some principles to use to live pure and devoted to God.
Don't Just Lay There and Die--It's Not Over!

In the 1992 Olympics a runner by the name of Derek Redmond was expected to finish with a medal but instead he finished dead last because right in the middle of the race his hamstring tore. The whole world witnessed it. But instead of giving up he pressed on, determined to finish the race, and the world applauded his courage.
King Manasseh fell hard into sin, offering his kids to idols, leading a whole nation astray, and was almost entirely responsible for his people being placed under God's judgment. He had no reason to get up and go after God but in spite of his condition, Manasseh humbled himself, turned from his sin and God honored his repentance by giving Manasseh a chance to know Him.
Most of us can learn a lot from Manasseh's determination not to let discouragement and defeat get the best of him. In this sermon Pastor Cox expounds on all that Manasseh had to go through to turn back to God and encourages those in the same state as Manasseh to do as he did.
God, I Need a Break from You and Religion
Submitted by Layman on Sun, 11/22/2009 - 12:00.
Often times when kids are raised in the church and doing everything they're supposed to do they find themselves feeling exhausted, worn out, dry, and suffocated. So the minute they separate from their parents and start doing things on their own they let all the rules go and start doing what they've really been wanting to do all along. Of course once they get their heart's desire, they also get loaded down with the consequences that come with it.
In this sermon Pastor Cox gives an example of a boy named Manasseh who became king when he was twelve years old and decided that he wasn't going to do the church thing anymore. Now that he was king he was going to break all the rules in the book, only to find out that it wasn't just that he was breaking his father's rules but he was defying a good God in the process.
Listen to his story, I think we could all learn from his mistakes.
